Ebbwater’s core business is helping communities better prepare for natural hazards. These hazards are being driven by a changing climate – sea levels are rising, inland floods are increasing in severity, intensity and frequency, debris flows are being initiated more frequently, as are wildfires, to name just a few outcomes of climate change. We are steeped in this world day-in and day-out; we see the science unfolding on our computer screens as maps of projected temperature changes, or as animations of floodwaters becoming deeper and moving further inland. Our job is to look at these images and then to support our clients to make good decisions to ensure that we adapt to this future. This is hard work.
And so, despite the fact that going on ‘strike’ means that we are not doing the hard work of climate adaptation, we’ve decided to close the office for the afternoon of September 27th. We will be striking.
We want to join and support the worldwide community that recognises that we have a global climate emergency. Only by voicing our collective concerns will change happen. If we fight hard enough…the climate adaptation practitioners of the future will be out of a job, and that’s exactly what we want.
We hope that you will join us!
