Many local governments in British Columbia have by-law and permitting requirements for local land owners whose properties lie within designated floodplains. Commonly, local governments require a letter from a qualified professional that provides information on the local flood hazard, and if any proposed changes to the property will affect the hazard.
Ebbwater Consulting was hired by a local landowner in Glen Valley, Township of Langley, who wished to make some minor changes to their property. The Township required a letter or report from a professional engineer experienced in the area of drainage and hydraulics confirming whether the proposed work would impact the floodplain. Ebbwater Consulting completed a site visit and desktop analysis of the Fraser River flood hazard. A report outlining Ebbwater’s findings was prepared and ultimately submitted to the Township in support of other development applications.
