The 2016 BC Provincial Budget, for the first time in a decade, included a specific funding allocation for flood mitigation of $50M. Obviously, this made us excited. The budget was however vague on where this money was going to go, prompting us to put on our sleuthing hats and keep our ears to the ground. We have been tracking funding announcements since February, and now have a good idea of where most of the money will be going. Check out the map below if you want to see yourself; the bigger the circle the greater the funding. You can also click on the circles to see who got the funding, what it is being spent on, and a link to the Province’s press release. We’ll be adding to it as the final announcements come in. We’ve officially tracked 99.8% of the funds; there is theoretically another $97,000 left. Most of the money (97.4%) has been allocated to infrastructure projects as shown in the figure below.
